Far too long

Hello friends.... It's been quite a while since the last time we've posted here. Life has brought a lot of changes...all good.

We're back in Oakley and absolutely loving it. This town has held our hearts for a few years now, and we're so excited to be back in the area we've loved for so long.

I (Matt), am working at Epipheo and have to pinch myself everyday. It's such an amazing, creative place and I feel so blessed to be able to do the kind of work I get to do now.

With that, I'm also playing occasionally playing music with Joe Dunlap. You need to get his album....I promise you will not be disappointed!

Lanna is still nannying for the same family and it's amazing. So thankful to have amazing kids she can invest in. What she does is amazing and I'm truly proud to call her my wife!

Together, we've been trying to be more active in our church community, Red Door. Lanna's been heading up a lot of the Kid's ministry stuff and I've been playing drums a little bit and volunteering my graphic/design skills. We couldn't ask for a more amazing family to be apart of!

That's really all that's gone on (in a very, very, very broad nutshell). I thought I'd leave with you some pictures to check out! We'd love to hear from you! SO please let us know what you've been up to for the past year ;)

Wait, I have a blog?!

Sigh. I still haven't gotten the hang of posting on this thing consistently. Maybe one day, but for now, I can handle so many things at once. And let me tell you, people, I've got a few big things to handle right now : ) good things. The beard and I have some big things a brewin'. But you can't know yet! Soon though. Hopefully, VERY soon!

Anyway, this week has been an awesome week in the spring goals area of my life. I've been to VOA several times this past week and walked/jogged about 3.5 to 4 miles or so each time. Mostly just walking at a fast pace, but I'm pretty proud of myself for setting jogging goals and accomplishing them. Maybe I'll work my way back to running soon : ) The only downfall is the achy muscles. I can't wait to be over that! I've been getting more disciplined in having a quiet time, too. It's funny, I can tell a difference after only a few days of making sure I'm reading and praying consistently! I feel so much more joyous. And then my days feel off if I miss, so that's been awesome. I also got this bedding with bday money this week, and I am loving it.

On top of all that, spring has finally sprung in the buckeye state. Helloooo! So beautiful. Even when it's raining. I like the thunderstorms we get in spring time. It forces me to rest and take it easy. And that's never a bad thing!

What have you been up to lately?

week in photos

This week wasn't a particularly active one. The last part of the month keeps Matt at work more often, so there was a lot of cuddling and fetch playing with me and Harlem Jones. But it was a good week :) Here a few random moments from it in picture form.

I had cookies and milk for breakfast.....again. You should know by now that I have a serious cookie weakness.

I made a delicious chili. I found the original recipe on Kristens blog, and modified it just a tad.

Hung out backstage with hubby's band, The Waking Point, before their show on Saturday.

and, like I said, played lots of fetch with Harlem. We play fetch inside when it's cold out, because Harlem will not stand for the idea of not playing fetch at all for even one day. Here she is taking a quick break from our game of living room fetch...

and here she is 30 seconds later, done with break and ready to go.

Here's the recipe for that delicious chili, made in the crock pot : )

{ Brown Sugar Chili }
Crock pot: high 2 hours

1 lb extra-lean ground beef
½ c brown sugar
2 Tbsp prepared mustard
1 med-size onion, chopped
(2) 14 oz cans kidney beans, drained
1 pint low-sodium tomato juice
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
3 tsp chili powder
frozen corn or drained can of corn
about a tbsp honey (I use raw honey)

Brown lean ground beef & onion in a nonstick skillet over med heat.
Stir brown sugar & mustard into beef.

Combine all ingredients into slow cooker.

Cover. Cook on high 2 hours. If convenient, stir several times during cooking.

next time I think I might add some crushed red pepper or more chili powder to add a little more heat. But it was SO good. Matt said it was some the best chili he's ever had!

I love emery

I got to see these guys for the third time this weekend. They never ever disappoint. I have so much respect for musicians/bands who show up and out-do their recorded songs live. Emery is by far one of the best bands i've ever seen or heard.

Thrifted

So Matt's birthday is Monday, and tonight we're celebrating with friends over a delicious brinner bash. For those of you who don't know what brinner is, I'll explain. It is the act of eating breakfast for dinner. This is Matt's favorite. So tonight, we shall feast upon a breakfast casserole (his mama's recipe), big fluffy biscuits, bacon, cinnamon rolls, yummy fruit, 3 different kinds of cereal, and mimosas. And we will have cookies and milk for dessert. Because hello, cookies and milk goes with the brinner theme too. Don't act like you never eat a heaping pile of oreos or chocolate chip cookies dipped in milk for breakfast. Anyway, I was on a mission to find some cute pitchers to pour milk and juice out of last night, and OMG. I found a diamond. I was browsing St. Vincent De Paul and was feeling pretty disappointed and uninspired by their selection. My general opinion every time I go in St. Vincent is that they don't have anything worth writing home about and they're overpriced most of the time. So there I am, looking at all these cracked, ugly, overpriced pitchers when my eye catches the splendor of this legit vintage goddess. Not only is it a super cute, unharmed pitcher that just needs a good washing, it includes ALL the accessories needed to brew loose leaf tea in it!! OMG OMG OMG!!! I promptly grabbed this baby up and payed the 2 DOLLARS it cost. Then scurried out before anyone could try and steal it from me. 2 FREAKING DOLLARS!!! I am on cloud 9. Feast your eyes upon her, she is grand.

Sigh. It may be the beards birthday, but the lady got a present : )

This song is one of those songs that we have to play over and over and over when it comes on in the car. SOOOO GOOOOOOOD.

music monday, beard edition: friendly fires

try not dancing to this song.

Music Monday: Matt Costa

I have loved Matt Costa's music since I first heard it about 4 years ago. Matt and I got to see him a couple years ago at Miami and he was SO good. This song is one that I have to do a little dance to every single time it comes on my ipod and then I usually hit repeat at least once or twice. Enjoy!

Music Monday: Lady Edition (a day late.)

Woops! Looks like I got distracted for a week again. Big surprise. Good thing I'm not feeling well today and alternating laying in bed and on the couch is very conducive to blogging for me.

If you haven't heard of The Civil Wars yet, you need to look them up and get ready to obsess over them. I discovered them because I like to stalk follow Joy Williams, and when she started talking about her new project, I naturally went right for it. They have exploded over the past year and I am so excited for them! There's so much talent in these people. I can't wait to see where they go!!
